2017 MBB (Game #08): Liberty Flames versus GSU Panthers
Final score: 74 – 77 (Liberty Flames win)
This was a very disappointing loss by the Panthers. Coming into tonight’s game, we all knew both teams would be fairly evenly matched. I expected this to be a nice offensive battle… and it didn’t disappoint.
What ultimately hurt the Panthers was the simple fact that they allowed the Flames way too many treys in the second half of the game (a monstrous 8 of 13), plus two more in OT, for a total of 14 of 26 (an insanely high 42 of their 77 points came from three pointers).
What makes it even worse is that we could see when they were setting up on the triple shots… the Flames would draw the panthers in towards the basket, while leaving one or two LU players on the outside, then zip the ball out, quickly, for the three pointers.
Coach Hunter does his best to contain his emotions, win or lose. I could easily see that he was not happy with the final result.
The Panthers have a few things to work on before the Montana State game on Saturday at 2 PM.
The Liberty Flames? They’re headin’ back home, wearing a huge smile… and already looking forward to their game on Friday (against Maryland Eastern Shore), at 7 PM.
