ATLANTA – Looking to win the sixth conference championship in program history, the Georgia State women’s golf team will open the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Georgia State has won five conference championships under head coach Cathy Mant, but will be looking for its first Sun Belt title and first conference championship since 2010, which would return to the Panthers to NCAA Regional play for the first time in nine years.

The Panthers are led by sophomore Chloe Howard who has back-to-back top 5 finishes and a team-best 75.28 scoring average. She earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors last year along with Sun Belt All-Tournament honors at The Raven in Miramar Beach, Fla.

“We are healthy and coming off a really good week of practice,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “This group has worked hard all spring season and hopefully we can play our best golf of the year over the next three days. If we do, I have a great feeling that we will be in contention on Wednesday.”

Howard leads a young line-up that includes just one upperclassmen. She will be joined by junior Harmanprit Kaur, sophomore Petra Duran, and freshmen Emma Berlin and Maria Blasco.

Kaur leads the team with five top 25 finishes this year, including a pair of top 5 results to open the spring season. Her 75.40 scoring average is second on the team. Duran, who was injured last spring, along with Berlin and Blasco will be making their conference tournament debuts.

The field of 11 will play 18 holes each day, Monday through Wednesday. The winner will receive the Sun Belt’s automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.

Live scoring throughout the event can be found at Golfstat.com. After a practice round on Sunday, the championship will open with tee times at 8 a.m. on Monday. Georgia State will be paired with Troy and Georgia Southern going off Hole No. 1 at 8 a.m. on the first day.

With a tournament championship, Georgia State would advance to one of four NCAA Regional sites May 6-8. Regional sites include Auburn, Ala., Cle Elum, Wash., Norman, Okla., and East Lansing, Mich.
