BIRMINGHAM – Led by senior James Kyles, Georgia State shot a 23-over 311 to stand in 15th place following the first round of the Shoal Creek Invitational at Shoal Creek Country Club.

Round 2 of the three round tournament got underway before darkness set it. Four golfers remained on the course still needing to finish Round 1. It will be finished on Tuesday morning before the final round gets underway.

Kyles opened play with a 3-over 75 to stand in a tie for 35th place after making three birdies in Round 1.

The Panthers were just two strokes behind No. 13 Auburn and Samford as Round 2 got underway.

“Due to the weather we were not able to get in a practice round yesterday and I think that mostly affected us around the greens today,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “They were very firm and our guys had a hard time adjusting.
