Georgia State Stands 14th After Day One of Augusta Haskins Award Invitational
ATLANTA – Georgia State shot rounds of 299 and 294 to stand in 14th place following the opening day of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club just miles from Augusta National.
Junior Josh Edgar led the Panthers with rounds of 72 and 74 to stand at 2-over par and tied for 47th entering the final round on Sunday.
The Panthers are 17-over par with 18 holes to play. Georgia State is making its ninth appearance in the event.
“We just made too many bogeys today to be competitive in one of the premier tournaments in the country,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We played a little better in the afternoon, but still not where we need to be. As a team we need to step up tomorrow to see if we can climb a few spots on the leaderboard.”
Junior Egill Gunnarsson stands tied for 51st at 3-over par following rounds of 75 and 72 on Saturday. Senior James Kyles shot rounds of 75 and 76 to sit at 7-over par and tied for 66th entering the final round.
Senior Nathan Williams added rounds of 77 and 74 to stand tied for 66th at 7-over par, while fellow senior Nick Budd shot rounds of 78 and 74 and is tied for 68th at 8-over par.
No. 3 Wake Forest shot rounds of 269 and 278 to sit at 29-under par after 36 holes and hold a two stroke lead entering the final round. No. 7 Texas is in second place at 27-under par, while No. 37 Arkansas is in third at 19-under par. No. 19 South Carolina is in fourth-place at 18-under par, while host Augusta rounds out the top five at 9-under par.
Wake Forest’s Cameron Young, ranked No. 22 in the country, shot rounds of 63 and 65 to stand at 16-under par and hold a six-stroke lead entering the final round. Arkansas’ Tyson Reeder stands in second-place at 10-under par, with Texas’ Cole Hammer in third at 8-under par. Mercer’s Stanton Schorr and South Carolina’s Jamie Wilson are tied for fourth at 7-under par.
Live scoring of the final round can be found at GolfStat.com. Georgia State will be paired with UCF and Air Force for the final round beginning at 9:35 a.m. off Hole No. 10 on Sunday.
Following the event, Georgia State will return to the course April 16-16 for the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Auburn in Shoal Creek, Ala. It will mark the final regular season event for the Panthers before the conference tournament.
