ATLANTA – For the second-straight season, Georgia State will face a tough test when play begins in the Schenkel Invitational hosted by in-state rival Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club on Friday.

Last season the Panthers finished 13th in Statesboro as Nick Budd earned a tie for 17th. Three years ago, the Panthers finished sixth led by JJ Grey who tied for third place.

“We have had a couple of really good weeks of practice and are excited to get back on to the golf course,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Everything we do over the next few weeks will be to prepare us for the Sun Belt Conference tournament. That starts this week as we face a very tough field, but I know our guys are excited and up to the challenge.”

The 14-team field will include host Georgia Southern, UAB, UCF, College of Charleston, ETSU, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, and Virginia Tech.

Georgia State’s line-up will include senior Severin Soller, juniors Josh Edgar and Egill Gunnarsson, sophomore Owen Sertl, along with freshman David Li. Senior Nick Budd will compete as an individual.

Soller is currently leading the Panthers with a 72.60 scoring average and a pair of top 25 finishes in four events this year. Edgar also has a pair of top 25 finishes and a 71.00 scoring average this spring.

Georgia State will be paired with Maryland and Middle Tennessee going off Hole No. 10 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at

Following this week’s event, Georgia State will return to the course for the Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Course in Greenville, S.C., March 22-24.
