Freshman David Li to Compete in Orlando Amateur

ATLANTA – Following a remarkable first semester at Georgia State, freshman David Li will compete in the Orlando Amateur beginning on Friday.

Li, who led the Panthers with a 71.63 scoring average in the fall, will compete among a field of 204 golfers at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge. The field will play both the Panther Lake and Crooked Cat courses.

“David’s first semester here was a small glimpse into how great of a Panther he is going to be,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Not only was he strong in the classroom, but he also had our lowest scoring average this fall (71.63). I am incredibly proud of the way he has settled in and look forward to seeing him compete against a great field this week at the Orlando Amateur.”

Li led the Panthers at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and then finished tied for 13th at the GSU-hosted Autotrader Collegiate Classic with three-straight rounds of 70. In eight rounds during the fall, Li shot par or better four times including a low of 67.

Li will open play on Friday at 9:36 a.m. on the Crooked Cat course.

Fans can follow the action this weekend on the official Georgia State men’s golf Twitter account @GaStateGolf.

Georgia State will return to the course for the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn Feb. 24-26, at Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Ala.
