Georgia State Tied for Fifth at Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – Led by a pair of underclassmen, the Georgia State women’s golf team shot rounds of 303 and 296 to stand tied for fifth following two rounds of the Pinehurst Challenge on Pinehurst No. 6.
Sophomore Chloe Howard led the Panthers with rounds of 73 and 74 to stand tied for 12th at 3-over par with 18 holes to play.
Freshman Emma Berlin was equally impressive as after shooting an opening round 77, rebounded in the afternoon with a 1-under 71 and stands tied for 16th at 4-over par.
The Panthers are 23-over par after two rounds with the final round scheduled for Tuesday morning.
“Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the way we played today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We didn’t get off to a perfect start in the morning, but shot one of the best rounds in the afternoon. That shows the direction we are moving. We have a young team, but they give their all and this afternoon it showed.”
Junior Harmanprit Kaur, the lone upperclassmen in the line-up this week stands tied for 34th at 8-over par following rounds of 74 and 78. Kaur has a pair of top 20 finishes in two tournaments this fall.
Kaur is tied with sophomore Petra Duran who shot rounds of 79 and 73 on Monday. Freshman Maria Blasco rounded out the line-up shooting 81 and 88 to sit at 25-over par and tied for 87th.
Host College of Charleston leads the 17-team field at 11-over par. North Florida is in second place at 12-over par with Jacksonville State in third at 19-over par. High Point stands in fourth place at 22-over par with Georgia State, Richmond and William & Mary tied for fifth at 23-over par.
North Florida’s Sydney Shrader leads the field at 4-under par with Stetson’s Sarah May in second at 1-under par. Jacksonville State’s Valentina Giraldo, College of Charleston’s Jodee Tindal and High Point’s Tonrak Tasaso are tied for third place at even par.

Following this week’s tournament, Georgia State will return to the course Oct. 21-23, for the Pat Bradley Classic in Sorrento, Fla.
