Georgia State 13th After Day One of Wolfpack Intercollegiate

What You Need to Know:

  • Georgia State shot rounds of 302 and 291 to stand in 13th place following day one of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C.
  • Sophomore Egill Gunnarsson led the Panthers with rounds of 74 and 72 on Saturday.
  • This marks Georgia State’s third of four fall tournaments. The fall season will conclude hosting the Autotrader Collegiate Classic Oct. 15-16, at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth.

RALIEGH – Following a tough opening round, the Georgia State men’s golf team bounced back in round two of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate to stand in 13th place on Saturday entering the final round.

After shooting a round of 302 in the morning, the Panthers bounced back with a 291 in the afternoon to stand at 17-over par at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Junior Egill Gunnarsson led the Panthers with rounds of 74 and 72 to sit at 2-over par and tied for 43rd.

“We got off to a rough start in the morning,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “I was proud that we played better in the second round and made a lot more birdies, but there is still stuff we need to clean up. I’m hopefully that we can take that momentum into the final round, go low and see where it lands us.”

Junior Josh Edgar is tied for 51st at 4-over par following back to back rounds of 74, while senior Nick Budd is tied for 68th at 6-over par, shooting 78 and 72 on Saturday.

Sophomore Owen Sertl shot 78 and 73 on the opening day and is tied for 74th at 7-over par. Senior Nathan Williams rounded out the line-up with rounds of 76 and 78 to sit tied for 83rd at 10-over par.

Freshman Frederik Hedmark who is competing as an individual this week shot rounds of 76 and 73 to sit tied for 57th at 5-over par.

Host NC State shot a second-round 275 and leads the 15-team field at 13-under par. Jacksonville and Campbell are tied for second-place at 10-under par, with UNC Greensboro in fourth at 9-under par. East Carolina and Maryland are tied for fifth-place at 8-under par.

UNC Greensboro’s Jonathan Brightwell shot a second round 66 and leads the field at 8-under par. East Carolina’s Blake Taylor and Maryland’s Peter Knade are tied for second-place at 7-under par. NC State’s Benjamin Shipp, Maryland’s Tim Colanta, and Southern Miss’ Joey Kirkland are tied for fourth-place at 5-under par.

Teams will utilize a two tee start on Sunday morning. The Panthers will be paired with Lipscomb and Loyola (Md.), beginning at 8:45 a.m. off Hole No. 10.
