Inaugural Outdoor GSU JAM Set for October 11

ATLANTA – With basketball practice underway and an exciting season for both the Georgia State men and women’s programs just around the corner, the inaugural outdoor GSU JAM is set for Thursday, Oct. 11. After years inside the GSU Sports Arena, this year’s event will take place at the University Commons outside and under the lights.

The free event, which is open to the public, will serve as the first opportunity for fans to see the teams up-close and personal.

“We love the idea of taking this event to the students,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “Although it is open to everyone and we want all of our fans to attend, our students are extremely important to us. I hope that we can make this event like something you would see at Rucker Park in New York where fans surround the court while our guys participate in a variety of skills competitions.”

Hunter is leading a men’s squad that is coming off a second NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years. On the women’s side, new head coach Gene Hill returns a talented group who will play a challenging non-conference schedule beginning in November.

Gates at the University Commons will open at 6:30 p.m., with the event getting underway at 7 p.m., with a DJ and live music.

Georgia State students and student-athletes will participate in various skills competitions during the 90-minute event. Free pizza for students will be served on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last.

Fans wishing to drive to the event can park in the G Deck for $3.00 and ride the Panther Express shuttle to University Commons. The G Deck can be accessed off Central Avenue and Courtland Street. Outside food and beverage will be permitted.

Season tickets are currently on sale for both programs. The men will play 14 home contests this winter at the GSU Sports Arena, including contests against Mercer and Georgia Southern. Women’s basketball hosts both Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State in early non-conference action. Season tickets are now on-sale by calling 404-413-4020 or visiting GeorgiaStateSports.com.
